Drawing on Life films a series of architects in their studios and working environments and discusses with them the role drawing and sketchbooks play in their lives. The film follows architects in their daily practice, eavesdrops on their discussions and thoughts, their collaborations, their secret world of drawing in cafes and how drawing is used to communicate as a direct form of speech.
Amidst the busy schedules of office meetings and projects architects are filmed drawing and discussing their way of seeing the world. From the meditations of Grafton Architects on their Learning Arena in Peru through to the Belfast architect Michael Doherty’s pencil studies of landscapes, buildings and people, this hidden world of what architects are thinking and drawing is captured and documented in this film.
